Active engagement and motivation
Active engagement and motivation
Adolescent learners are motivated when they are active participants in purposeful
instruction and are engaged with age appropriate reading materials. LAIP provides
meaningful reading lessons, using grade level texts and activities, appealing to secondary
school students.
Time management
Time management
Nowhere is effective time management more important than in intervention programs,
where progress has to be accomplished in less than the usual amount of instructional
time. LAIP provides teachers intensive instructional schedules, including closing
activities, so they can successfully use every minute of intervention, maximizing reading
outcomes.
Student independence and accountability
Student independence and accountability
Ultimately, the goal for all students is that they work independently. For this reason LAIP focuses on teaching students strategies that can be generalized to other instructional settings. Other activities such as student Reflective Learning Conferences, project-based learning activities, and Beyond the Book Club are designed to hold learners accountable and in charge of their own learning.
